Bookmatch Marble: What It Is and Where to Use It
Bookmatch marble is one of the most striking ways to use natural stone. Two or more slabs cut from the same block are opened like the pages of a book, so their veining mirrors each other and forms a symmetrical pattern.
How bookmatching works
A stone block is sliced into consecutive slabs. Because neighbouring slabs share almost the same pattern, one slab is flipped and placed beside the other. The veins meet in the middle and create a mirrored design, often looking like a butterfly or a wave.
Where to use bookmatch marble
- Living room feature walls and TV walls
- Bedroom headboard walls
- Bathroom walls behind vanities
- Reception areas and lobbies
- Table tops and kitchen splashbacks
Tips for a great result
- Choose a marble with strong, flowing veins, as they show the mirror effect best.
- Order all slabs from the same block for a perfect match.
- Plan the joint line carefully so the pattern meets exactly.
- Consider backlighting translucent stones for an even more dramatic effect.
